Envisionware Printing Changes

This is a reminder about the signs at the Print Release Station and on the internet monitors

We have made a couple of changes to prevent or reduce the effects of these situations:
- Patron takes too long to add money into the coin/bill acceptor and the countdown clock at the Print Release times out and logs them off causing the coin/bill acceptor to refund their payment in coins
- Patron has a large print job that takes several minutes to print causing a line to form at the Print Release Station
- Patron has many print jobs and attempts to print all of them at once going over the maximum amount that can be added to the coin/bill acceptor causing the coin/bill acceptor to refund their entire payment in coins

The first change we made is to prevent patrons from sending a single print job larger than $10. That would be anything longer than 100 pages to the black&white printer and 20 pages to the color printer. If a patron attempts to print more than $10 they will receive this error and the print job will not be sent to the Print Release Station.


The second change is that the coin/bill acceptor is now set to prevent the patron from depositing more than $10 into it at a time. This coincides with the $10 max per print job; patrons will never have a single print job larger than what the coin/bill acceptor will accept.

Unfortunately there is not a way in Envisionware to prevent a patron from selecting multiple print jobs which total exceeds $10. For example a patron can click “Select all” and have two print jobs totaling $12. The patron begins to add money into the coin/bill acceptor and hits the $10 limit. Now any amount the patron attempts to add over $10 will cause the coin/bill acceptor to refund the entire $10 in coins. The patron will have to start over again and this time the patron now has $10 worth of coins that they have to stand there and insert into the acceptor.

By setting the limit to $10 we hope to prevent the coin/acceptor from being emptied when this happens (the original limit was $25)! Also patrons have a better chance of adding $10 of coins into the acceptor before the Print Release countdown clock times out on them.

So what should patrons do if they have multiple print jobs totaling more than $10? They will have to individually select one or more print jobs (do not click “Select all”) so that the total of all selected jobs does not exceed $10. Then the patron can add money and print and then repeat the process.
Hopefully patrons will notice the signs. I also changed the popup at the Print Release Station to remind them of this limit.
