Internet Only Cards

Effective Tuesday, September 27, 2011

In order to try to give computer access whenever necessary - but at the same time reserving guest passes for true one-time guests - we can now issue Internet Only cards at the youth, readers advisory, and reference desks. This has to be done from the librarian station, not at the Computer Assistance side of the desk because it requires access to Horizon.

Here are the criteria for deciding who is eligible for a library card, a guest pass, or an internet only card:
Library Cards, Guest Passes , and Internet Only Cards

1. Library Cards
-If a patron is eligible for a library card, they should be highly encouraged to get one from the circulation desk.

-If they have a card from another library that needs to be imported into our system, they should be highly encouraged to do so at the circulation desk.

2. Guest Passes
-If patron is truly a one-time guest, print a guest pass through Envisionware.

-If a patron is a one-time guest until they can go get a library card from a neighboring library and have it imported here, print a guest pass through Envisionware.

-Look up the patron in Horizon by name before printing the pass. This will verify that they are not in the system (ie. with fines, expired cards, etc.)

3. Internet Only Cards
-If a patron is too young to get a library card without a parent present or does not meet the criteria in #1 and #2 above, issue them an Internet Only card.

-These are issued right at the youth, readers advisory, or reference desks. They are regular library cards with holes punched in them.

-Internet Only cards expire in one month. If a patron tries to use it after it expires, they will be reminded to meet criteria in #1 or #2 above. Please remind patrons when you issue the card that it will expire in 30 days. There is a place on the card itself to write in the expiration date.

-Cards are located in bundles in the desk drawers at each desk.
