Here are some new guidelines for the Lost & Found.
Lost property is returned to its rightful owner whenever possible. Owner is either contacted via phone/email, or the item is returned via U.S. mail. Otherwise, claimants who request items in person at lost and found should provide an accurate description of the item and, if possible, proof of ownership. Lost and Found items are generally retained for 30 days. After this time period, items generally are donated to charity.
Cash: Cash turned-in to the Lost and Found is held for approximately 30 days, and then deposited in cash register as “GIFTS”. If such cash is contained in wallets or purses turned-in to Lost and Found, an attempt will be made to contact the patron. If no contact can be made within 24 hours, the purse/wallet will be taken to the City of Plymouth Police station. To claim lost cash, the claimant must provide an accurate description of the container in which it was found and/or the correct amount.
Driver’s License / other official documents: Attempt will be made to contact owners of unexpired driver’s licenses or other official documents that have been turned in. If no contact can be made within 24 hours, the identification/documents will be taken to the City of Plymouth Police station.
