Reference Meeting Minutes 8-23-11

Holly -- Joomla goes live on Sept. 12. Librarians will be responsible for posting and promoting their own programs on the web site. Marjorie will continue to handle contracts. See Kathy P. if you have any programs in September as the registration function is not fully operational yet. Shifting of non-fiction is almost complete. Top shelves are (for the most part) not being used. Please continue to use the multi-purpose Yellow Slips for purchase requests. All three interns complete their internships on Sept. 2. New intern candidates are currently being interviewed and those selected will start the day after Labor Day.

Kathy P. - Book Buzz has more subscribers than we realized so we will continue maintaining it. There is no set date for Kindles to become Overdrive-compatible but when it does happen, all currently owned books will be available in that format, as will all future purchases.

Alice -- PDL logo shirts will be available for order soon. Along with the short- and long-sleeved polos and the denim shirts, long-sleeved and vest-style fleeces will be available.

Tim -- Tim asked if Microsoft Office could open Works documents. Frank is not sure and will look into it. It was mentioned that we have had this issue come up another time recently.

Marjorie -- Patrons may sign up for Fall programs as of tomorrow.

Susan S. -- Newsletters will be out in a few days. The schools no longer allow scout troops to meet there for free so we are getting more requests to use our facility. She is trying to figure out how to best accommodate them. The Garage Sale is now over. The Friends had a very successful children’s book sale. Susan is trying to recruit volunteers to package up the weeded books.

Katie P. -- NetLibrary records have been removed from Horizon. If you find a stray record, please mark it “weeded”. She will demo Web Dewey at the next reference meeting.

Frank -- On Saturday, Sept. 10, the whole tech staff will be working on the intranet. If you check from home and it is not working, check back again in a few minutes.

Carol -- The Babyplay format is changing. There will be a lapsit followed by babyplay on the 1st and 3rd Mondays and following Saturdays of each month. No registration is required.

Pat C. -- Pat asked how we are handling computer day passes. It appears to vary but generally patrons who are eligible for a card should be sent to Circ to get one. Use your best judgment. Regarding “lost” books, Carol asked if they could be set to “staff only”. Pat will make that happen. “Lost” reports will be sent out every six months and “missing” reports will be on a more regular basis.

In attendance: Carter, Champagne, Elkin, Ferguson, Hibner, McCardell, Page, Petlewski, Sadler, Sherman, Smale, Stoney, Thomas.
