Holly Nine people are signed up for the Zinio class tomorrow so it will be held in the Lab. Odeh has taken a fulltime job elsewhere and his position will be posted on Monday. We have a new black project cart.
Carol S. If you went to PLA and haven’t given her your suggestions yet, please do so ASAP. She passed out a handout from PLA on reimaging libraries in the community. Carol is talking to the Chamber of Commerce about our business resources. We will be having a SCORE workshop here in April and are looking into starting a Business Resource Center Collection. The new smart board in the Friends Room is up and working.
Marjorie The Michigan Opera Theater program is tonight at 7pm. The Author Fair is on Saturday and we will be giving away three Chamber gift certificates – two to authors and one to a lucky attendee. We will have a Senior Care Resources program on Monday.
Susan S. We are taking reservations for the Friends Book & Author Luncheon. Checks should be made payable to “Friends of the Novi Public Library.” The Spelling Bee is tomorrow.
Dana We have given out 160 bags so far for the March reading program. Kids can bring in their reading passports beginning March 29 and receive a set of six stickers to place in them. Carol C. is due back on March 31. Dana will ask her what our participation will be in the Thousand Books Before Kindergarten program. We are listed in their materials as a participating library, but are unsure about our role. Book packs are circulating nicely.
Tim Chess Club meets today and Brown Bag Books, tomorrow. We have more 1040 booklets on order. We have still not received any reproducibles from the State of Michigan.
Barb The March Madness display is up. We will have a special book discussion on “Looking for Alaska” at 3:30 on April 16. Barb is still working on getting more reliable NHS tutors -- five showed up last Wednesday but then none on Thursday. The schools will have half days this Wednesday and Thursday. Regarding Book Discussion Books, if you sign someone up and there is a copy of the book with no one else’s name on it, give it to the new person.
Sue P. Everyone’s Reading rolls out this week. The book is “Before You Know Kindness” by Chris Bohjalian. Copies are available at the Reader’s Advisory Desk. Both book discussion groups will be reading it and they have their own copies set aside. We will have a related program featuring a staffer of the Humane Society of Huron Valley on April 24. On April 30, the author will be speaking in Birmingham and Southfield and we have a very limited number of tickets for the events to give to patrons. They are at Reader’s Advisory; are first come, first serve; and are limited to two tickets per patron. Refer any questions to Sue. After the programs, please put any leftover tickets on Sue’s desk.
Kathy We will have access to Reference USA’s Historic Stock Quotes through the end of May. We will not be subscribing to it. We will begin our subscription to Comics Plus in mid-April and currently have a demo available for us to use to get familiar with the product. Please check it out. It contains comics/graphic novels aimed at middle schoolers and adults.
