Holly The fees for the Fax 24 machine are changing as of Monday. New fees are: 1st page -- $1.75; additional pages -- $1.00; international faxes -- $3.95 per page. Due to the high subscription cost and the fact that similar magazines will be available on Zinio, we will not be renewing our subscription to the National Enquirer.
Carol S. If you anticipate spending any significant amounts of money between now and the end of the year, please let her know within the next couple of days. Please keep an eye on the ice melt system and if it doesn’t appear to be working properly on the weekends, feel free to put up caution tape to block off any icy parts.
Carol C. We will have two winter break programs: Winter Carnival and Lego Open House.
Dana We will be ordering new Playaway Bookpacks. These are media kits that include several books and the same books loaded onto a Playaway. She reminded us that for those who have difficulty reading, you can slow down the pace of speech on the Playaways. Barb D. will order some kits for the Teen collection, as well. There will be no Family Game Night this year.
Susan S. The meeting room projector will be unavailable for the next couple of weeks as it is out for repair. Carol S. noted that the smart screen in the Friends Room is broken, as well, and will likely need to be replaced. The Blood Drive is Dec. 17. Several groups who requested meeting rooms have not shown up recently. Please let Susan know if you notice a room empty in the evening. Most evenings are booked solid. Holiday cards for the volunteers are making the rounds. Sign them and keep them moving.
Marjorie The Author Fair application will remain up on the front of the web page through December. After that, there will be a link from the event page. Priority is given to Plymouth authors.
Barb Eighth graders from Central Middle School will be here tomorrow morning. Those who bring their library cards will get candy canes. Barb is working with Emily H. on a YALSA grant application for Teen Tech Week. They would use the money for a green screen, software and tech accessories so that the kids can film book trailers, among other things. The Gingerbread Superheroes program has been postponed until March. The MLA Marketing & Business Conference will be held in Grand Rapids in March and they are looking for people willing to make five minute lightning talks on their successful marketing programs. Barb is also looking for a supplier of thin iron wire for her STEM battery program. If you know where she can get some, let her know. NHS students will be running several upcoming game programs. The Teen Zone and the area outside the Teen Zone will become an Exam Cram area just before finals. There will be additional tables and chairs, snacks, and NHS tutors available for light help from 1-5 on Sat. & Sun, 1/18-19 and from 6-9 on Mon.-Wed. 1/20-22. Regular NHS tutoring will not take place that week. Barb has been spending a lot of time in the Teen Zone greeting kids and making sure that everyone knows the rules.
Sue P. Contemporary Books meets tonight. If you come across any paperback copies of Annie’s Ghost, please give them to her so they can be returned to their proper homes.
Kathy Canton is now circulating 11 iPad Minis. They have the Overdrive app loaded, as well as several Project Gutenberg books. They are available to residents of both Plymouth and Canton. We will not be following suit in the near future, so advise Plymouth patrons that they are free to place holds on the Canton devices. Overdrive is working with us to develop a site strictly for children’s books. Kathy’s program on choosing an eBook device had 25 attendees, She will offer three programs on using specific devices in January. We will be adding a Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle HDX, and Galaxy Note 8 to our demo collection.
