Holly Staff photos will be put on the Intranet. Existing photos will be available to choose from on the S:/ drive or you may submit your own photos or you can have Susan S. take a new one. Please let Holly know your choice by the end of the week. Former intern Jackson Radish will be subbing here for the next couple of months. We will start a subscription to Zinio’s TOP 50 Magazines in January. Zinio allows patrons to download full issues of magazines to their own devices. The Friends have provided funding for part-time librarians to attend a day of sessions at PLA in Indianapolis this coming year. It will run from March 11-15 and will involve an overnight stay. Let Holly know by tomorrow if you think you might want to go.
Carol C. Two schools are coming in this week for 3rd grade visits. The Halloween Magic Show on Saturday is open to all ages.
Tim Chess Club meets today. Attendance is down since the school year began. Susan S. said she’d help promote it. Kathy noted that Stacy ended the Teen Knitting Group recently due to lack of attendance. Brown Bag Books will discuss The Cellist of Sarajevo tomorrow.
Carol S. She will go over the new budget with us at the next meeting. Carol asked when staff meetings were held. She will sit in on the next Clerk and Youth meetings. She recently attended MLA and noted that Library Edge, a program that helps libraries assess and improve technology services, is going live in January. She will be attending the Friends Meeting tomorrow. The Friends have recently funded white boards in the meeting rooms, bus transportation, a digital media server, and are providing funding for PLA. Carol is looking into the potential of a fiber project with the Plymouth/Canton Schools and the Canton Library. She will meet with Frank regarding revolving funds for technology. We will begin having professional landscaping services next year.
Lauren Beginning in January, the READ program will be held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month. Signup for November storytimes begins next week.
Marjorie The History of Eloise program is tonight and tomorrow we will begin a 2-part Retirement Planning seminar. Signup is poor for the Combatting Caregiver Stress program on Saturday. Sunday’s Irish Rhapsody program was excellent. She gave a brief report of the TLN Fall Workshop.
Susan S. She will host a volunteer orientation on November 18. If you have any projects, big or small, that volunteers can do, please let her know. We signed up 12-14 new organ donors through the Michigan Libraries for Life campaign. She will be taking new staff photos to put on the Intranet. Please get newsletter copy to her asap. One of our autistic volunteers created artwork for us that will be displayed here in the library.
Frank A network slowdown this morning was caused by an wireless user downloading a large file. Frank asked if we still use Google Talk. Since we do, he will update the list. Carol S. mentioned that we are looking at Outlook for our new mail server.
Kathy P. Medicare Part D signups are going briskly. Please ask patrons to bring their actual prescription bottles with them when they come so that all the necessary relevant information will be accurate. Fifty people are signed up for the Genealogy program tomorrow evening. Kathy attended the Digital Divide virtual conference last week. Notable concepts were that of “no wrong door” whereby a patron can come in and any staff member that they encounter will have certain base knowledge to help them. She also mentioned doing Reader’s Advisory via social media. This would mean putting up brief (3-4 lines) book reviews weekly on our Facebook page. Lauren mentioned that in January the Youth staff will begin doing displays of Staff Picks by the Youth Desk.
Alice She and Heather will begin implementing “on the shelf” Reader’s Advisory in the Audiobook and Large Print collections. Starting with a list of around 150-200 popular authors, they will put stickers in the backs of the items referring patrons to similar authors they might enjoy reading. If patron feedback is positive, the concept may grow to other collections.
Katie Mel did not tell us that they were changing their renewal policy. If you have a problem renewing an item that should be renewable, go ahead and renew it in Horizon and let Katie know the particulars and she will take care of it in Workflows.
