Reference Meeting – February 12, 2013
Holly: Lysol wipes will now be available at the upper level public computers and will remain out until March. Is the Bresser’s Guide at Reader’s Advisory being used? No, then it’s gone. The one up at reference will remain. Please mark your calendars: training for our new system, Symphony will take place April 22-26. We’ll have subs to cover desk so all can attend at some point during the week.
Staff choices blog – There was much discussion about the Staff Picks blog, which included its present location and platform, possible other locations and other book/music/movie/game reviews we have available for patrons. It was determined that we will 1) move it to the Blogger platform 2) try to transfer all previous staff blog entries to the new platform 3) Review usage at the end of summer reading before making a determination to continue or not with staff recommendations.
Kathy: The Gale Infotrac bundle was explained and shared. Kathy has chosen some subjects to remove from the bundle and add to the database page. All had a chance to review the list of subjects and select any others they’d like to see pulled out and highlighted. Our e-reader drop-in class has not drawn well. Kathy will designate a block of time and encourage patrons to make a one-on-one appointment for e-reader assistance. Kathy will offer a Pinterest Intro class on March 25.
Cathy: Cathy will again be working with Evanced for Teen Summer Reading Program, which will henceforth be called Teen Summer Program. The most points will be awarded for reading, but points will also be given for program attendance, book, music or movie reviews and other activities.
Marjorie: Marjorie shared good news in recent program attendance figures. The meditation program drew 35 people – leading Marjorie to consider future programs such as yoga, tai chi and nutrition. This week’s Rhapsody and Baseball programs also drew very well. Upcoming programs include a Bright Nights program on the mood & food connection and also a Senior Care Resources program. Marjorie shared a few highlights of the recent TLN meeting – most notably “Hype”, the maker space program at DPL.
Carol: Youth will still offer a paper option, in addition to online participation in SRP. The school break program next week will be a Lego Open House on Wednesday, February 20. Spring homeschool program will be a Science Fair.
Susan: Second proof of March/April/May newsletter is making the rounds – needs to be back to Susan by end of day Wednesday. AARP tax appointments moving along nicely. Staff patience and help appreciated.
Dana: Dana shared the Youth Dept. plans for March Reading Month, starting with a Dr. Seuss birthday party on March 2 and continuing throughout the month. There are no prizes –just encouragement for all young readers and the recognition of having their names posted in the Library.
Tim: Almost all tax forms are here with the exception of Pub 17 and the 1040 instruction booklets.
