Reference Meeting Minutes -- August 28, 2012

Holly        Please walk around when you are on desk.  With school starting, we need to make our presence known.  Kristine T. will be regularly scheduled for desk time. There will be an Overdrive webinar highlighting important new changes at 3:00 on 9/6 in the Walldorf Room.  The Staff In-service will be next Friday.  Holly will make up a schedule of events.  There will be a Tech Petting Zoo in the morning, and a Skype session as well as Mary Ellen Daniel speaking about low vision issues in the afternoon.  The Friends will provide lunch at noon and a signup sheet for additional dishes.  We will also have a refresher on emergency evacuation procedures.

Carol      She will be going to four open houses this week.  There will be a non-fiction vendor in the Storytime Room tomorrow from 3-6 who will also have some adult materials.  September storytimes will not begin until the third week of the month.

Alice        In anticipation of school stating next week, Joe made sure that the Teen Zone cameras are labeled properly and working.

Marjorie   Signup sheets for all Fall programs are in the registration binder.  Nan Washburn will be doing a preview of the upcoming Plymouth Symphony series next week.  No music will be performed at the preview.  We will host another five-part Money Management series.  People may sign up for individual sessions as well as private counseling.  Details are still forthcoming on our Talk Like a  Pirate Day program, but we will have an author speaking, an all-ages movie and a treasure hunt in downtown Plymouth from 10-4.  When people sign up for the Medicare programs, remind them to either bring a list of their prescriptions or the prescriptions themselves.

Tim          Brown Bag Books’ books are at the Circulation Desk. No books will be given out before the meeting time.  Tim will be on vacation for the next two weeks and will get the Banned Books Week materials out when he returns.

Lauren     There will only be one READ program this month.

Kathy P.  There will be several changes coming to Overdrive:  loan periods will increase to three weeks; checkouts will be limited to 7-8 books at any one time; and holds will be limited to six.  Please encourage people to return their books early if they are done with them to help speed up the wait times.  Overdrive will be rolling our several major changes that we will learn about in the September webinar.  We just got a new Samsung Galaxy Tab to add to our eReader collection.

Katie P.    If you have questions about self-registration, ask Katie or Pat C.  If you are looking up a patron record and there are two records showing, look at the older, all caps one.

Pat T.      The Board has recommended no increase to staff salaries again this year.  They will look into lump sums like last year.  We will be doing another salary survey.  We are also doing away with the Zone 5 level of service as it is never used.  We will be upgrading to Sirsi Dynix’s Symphony ILS with Enterprise.  If you’d like to see what it will be like, visit Portage District Library’s website.  We will migrate to this sometime in 2013.

Barb        She is looking for volunteers for the Petting Zoo that we will offer at the Staff In-service.  Areas include microfilm readers, eReaders, and low vision equipment.
