Reference Meeting Minutes -- July 10, 2012

Holly

The new e-book holders have arrived. There are 3 of them and they will be installed at Reader’s Advisory. We’ll rotate readers into them from the drawer.

Take a look at the fire alarm instruction slips, if you haven’t already. They are taped to service desk keyboards, various work stations in the main level staff area, and the break room refrigerator as a reminder of procedures established for fire drills – good instructions for newcomers and subs; good reminders for all else.

Pat 

Further updates for fire drills. Due to changes in City Hall and the reopening of the firehouse next door, the staff outdoor gathering spot following a fire drill is the southeast corner of the building, near the handicap parking spots.

For staff members needing to go to City Hall after 5pm or on weekends – enter at the main door (closest to Main) on Church St. Step into the small vestibule and see an “Emergency Only” phone. Pick it up and someone from the Police Dept. will buzz you in.

There have been 50 completed bingo sheets for adult srp. There are about 120 online participants signed up.

Kathy 

See Kathy’s recent ALA report when it comes out. Kathy did learn about Reference USA’s new mobile app. The Reference USA database also now has job postings (though not available in the mobile app). She recently checked the available positions listed for Ford Motor Company and they appeared up to date.

Kathy feels encouraged by additional developments in the e-book world. She will begin publishing a list of our new e-book and e-audio books for patrons. These updated lists will be at RA by the bestsellers list.

Evan 

Senior Wii bowling is doing well – participation is up to approximately 10 per month.

Dana 

There are currently 1300 kids signed up for srp – to include RTM, regular SRP and Edge.
Dana asked that all encourage kids to attend our srp programs –and to steer them toward the evening programs if possible.

Susan 

Penn ticket scavenger hunt will begin today in the youth area. For the next few weeks we will hide 6 large tickets that, when found, can be redeemed at the youth desk. There are 4 tickets per envelope.

The new Friends invite brochure came in today and was shared with the group.

Our newest piece of artwork is a watercolor painting, given in memory of former patron, Sharon Downes. It hangs near circulation and the admin offices.

Tim 

There are still Michigan maps – Tim is putting them out gradually on the upper level.

Frank

There is no special treatment at this time for spam in our email boxes – just delete it. Frank also reiterated that staff should watch for false ADP emails – these are phishing scams.

Reference desk computers are scheduled to be replaced on Monday, July 16, between 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. Readers’ Advisory computers will be replaced on Wednesday, July 18. Replacement date for Youth desk computers has yet to be determined.

Lauren 

Edge Monsters will take place today. Lower level windows that face City Hall will be replaced Thursday morning.

Cathy 

There are 229 teens signed up for Teen srp. Cathy encouraged all teens with questions or looking for assistance to be invited to participate in srp. She is very pleased with the 2800 hours of reading logged and the almost 700 reviews written by participants.
