Holly -- When you wish to attend an MLA workshop, find out if anyone else will be attending it and register online around the same time. Give Holly your information and she will send in a group PO. Holly attended the TLN Adult Services meeting and gave us a brief report. She asked for feedback re. the new fax machine. We have had a couple of pleased patrons and one who was disappointed that it did not accept incoming faxes. The download station and catalog computer have been removed from their home outside the Teen Zone. That space will be used for a new cd cabinet.
Carol -- Youth has started working on SRP and they are looking into adding an online registration component. School is out next week and we will have a program. Pre-School Parade will be on Feb. 21.
Cathy L. -- Cathy was impressed with the Star Lab, which is a portable planetarium, at the TLN Youth/Teen meeting. Will we host it here for a Teen SRP program. She is looking into having a rap music program. Cathy went to ALA and gave a brief report. Rotters is the winner of the Odyssey Audiobook Award.
Kathy P. -- Announced that we have been offered the Detroit News database at ½ off. Asked if we thought it would be useful. Consensus was that the Detroit Free Press and New York Times was sufficient. Usage on Book Letters (Book Buzz) is excellent and Kathy recommends we renew our subscription. The newest Overdrive problems are that the Kindle app isn’t working well on PCs and that Penguin is requiring Kindle users to download through a computer via USB drive. If there are questions about this, refer patrons to Kathy.
Lauren -- Thirty Nintendo DS games are now available for checkout. More will be ordered soon.
Evan -- We will be showing The Ides of March tomorrow and Thursday we will have Wii Bowling.
Sue P. -- In response to the book banning controversy in the Plymouth/Canton schools, we will be having two presentations from local professors about the importance of these books. These programs will be on Feb. 27 and March 7 and will be informational talks, not discussion forums. Tickets for the Everyone’s Reading author talks will be given out on a first come, first serve basis, with a limit of two tickets per person.
Marjorie -- Sunday’s Rhapsody program is filled. Sign-up sheets for March/April/May programs are in the binder. There will be no sign-ups for the author program. The authors will be pre-selected and the patrons just drop in. Marjorie asked if we could revisit the processing of incoming books as there seems to be quite a backlog. Katie P. said that the backlog has been eliminated and books should be moving through the system quicker now.
Sue S. -- The High School Photo Club has their work displayed in our display cabinets. Encourage patrons to contact Sue re. displaying their collections. The Lions Club is starting a Diabetes Support Group which will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. They will also be hosting a Food Drive here from March 2-16. The newsletter should be printed in the next few days. We will have a new boxed lunch format for this year’s Volunteer Luncheon on April 19.
Frank -- We have old PCs out for sale. The remote access password changes tomorrow. New passwords are available on the bulletin board outside the staff lounge. A new spam filter will be installed on Saturday. If you receive a message from “Barracuda”, that means that the message had been caught in the spam filter.
Pat T. -- The “hate propaganda” is still floating around. Sue S. says she is finding it in the copier room daily. If you see such material, please recycle it. Pat has notified Real Detroit that we do not wish to distribute their paper anymore. It mostly duplicates what is in the Metro Times.
