Holly
Holly asked if there had been any developments in internet-only cards. It was reported that there were some disappointed teens at some point in the last few weeks, but if they wanted a card, they came back with a parent to get one. If a patron requests an internet only card, make sure they are not already in Horizon. If not, remember that for internet only cards, names are to be put in last name first and in all caps.
It was recently observed that a Page on the machine assistance desk did not know how to give a guest pass to a patron – this info will be passed along to Linda V.
Holly reminded all that there is one more Medicare Part D program to be held on 11/29.
Pat
The Friends have recently expressed some concern when they came upon people in the book-sorting room on a couple of occasions. If you are in the Friends room or even passing through, please identify yourself and say hello. No one other than Friends or staff are to be in the room.
Carol
Carol reported that the new improved Baby Time program (which replaced Lapsit Storytime and Baby Play) has been well received and has been drawing about 25 babies and their parents or caregivers.
Lego Open House will take place the Saturday after Thanksgiving – 12noon – 4p.m.
Youth gets frequent requests for Nintendo DS games and is contemplating buying some. CPL is now checking their DS games out to Canton residents only.

Cathy has created a new booklist – College Bound Books
We have had difficulty getting teens to staff our Saturday drop-in computer tutoring sessions, despite calls to the National Honor Society advisor at the high schools. It was agreed that we should provide back-up in the event of a tutor no-show. Librarians, reference assistants or interns could serve as stand-ins when needed.

Our last Great Michigan Read event will take place next week during Brown Bag Books. Display will come down shortly and be returned to UD/Mercy.
Tim also asked if a computer user’s time would continue to diminish if they locked the computer and went to the restroom. Yes – time continues to wind down.
Katie
If a book coming in is a replacement or additional copy, do librarians need to see it? If so, librarian should put a note to that effect in the order note field.
Susan
Susan asked that patrons in meeting rooms not be allowed to move the café tables that reside near the hold shelf. There is almost always a turquoise rolling table outside the meeting rooms that can easily be moved into a room.
Evan
Film Club will meet on Saturday, November 26, featuring “The Aviator”.
Kathy
Kathy announced that we will be trying out the Gale Powerspeak Language program. Mango Languages has not been utilized as we had hoped it would be. The Gale product takes a different approach. Kathy asked that all take a look at it and post comments to the staff blog. We have paid for Mango through 2012, but still may add the Gale program if it appears that it would better serve patron needs.
Kathy has prepared a sheet detailing how to download e-books. Her “Downloading an e-book to an e-reader through Overdrive” sheet provided a number of options, based on the type of e-reader that the patron has.
Kathy reported that we will be beefing up our e-book collection in the coming months, to include teen and youth offerings.
