Holly ~ Question about 3-minute limit on Envisionware. General feeling was that 3 minutes is not enough time for a patron if they have to leave their computer to print, go to restroom, etc. Time will be extended to 5 minutes.
Reminder about time extensions on public computers – none issued after 7:55p.m. (4:55p.m. on Friday; 3:55p.m. on Saturday and Sunday). It was decided that pages will extend all users at these specified times, heading into the final hour of the day.
Can the dollar amounts on Pay for Printing and Pay on Account be combined? No.
What happened to “Accumulated print jobs for the day”? Frank explained that it could only be placed on the machine assistance desk OR the reference librarian’s desk – it was decided that it would be placed on the Librarians. Frank will clarify location of it and notify all librarians.
Office 2007 will be on the public computers by end of summer.
Several librarians would like to access the desk schedule from their home computers. Frank is working on it.
Pat T.~ Pat reported on the 2012 budget – Taxable revenue will be down approximately 4%, as will our budget. All staff positions are secure, although we will be looking closely at 2011 spending for places that can be reduced in the coming budget. In the five-year projection, we anticipate no growth. Our equipment reserve, building reserve and fund balance are all in good shape.
Dana ~ So far about 600 children have signed up for youth SRP. We are waiting on a replenishment of the MET forms for distribution to SRP participant families. Dana inquired about Amazon orders and the changes in ordering procedures. It was suggested that she place items to purchase in a private cart and then switch them over to the PDL cart at the time order is placed.
Katie ~ Katie explained that she and Pat are handling Baker & Taylor orders with the plan that a clerk will soon be trained and will take it over. She further offered that all orders will now be returned to the librarians.
Katie inquired about the yellow post-its indicating a hold on a new book – are they necessary? Several librarians felt that they did want to know when a patron was waiting on hold for one of the new books in their collections. Notification of this will be further examined and finalized in the future.
Lauren ~ Teen SRP has had about 70 sign-ups so far. All were asked to encourage teens to attend the Teen SRP kickoff next Monday, June 20 at 6 p.m. The READ program had a full house (6 children) again last night. A third dog is being trained at this time and will be added to the schedule down the road.
Susan S. ~ Volunteer orientation sessions will take place in the next few weeks for shelvers and indexers. Meeting room requests for 2012 are coming in and we are beginning to process them.
Susan will experiment with the Dunning and Walldorf wireless microphones and notify all of their capabilities.
Sue P. ~ Adult SRP is in full swing – many bingo sheets have been picked up and ten participants have already claimed their prizes. Sue asked all to encourage participation – by the time a patron has asked a question at the desk, they could have 2 squares on their sheet completed.
Pat C. ~ Any circulation questions? It was reported that circ staff have been very helpful in keeping an eye on the teens and helping keep them in line.
Marjorie ~ Marjorie attended the Adult TLN meeting and reported that the Fall Workshop will concentrate on technology and will be held here at PDL. She shared some productive tips on promotion for Wii bowling, as shared at the meeting.
Marjorie also attended Libraries Without Walls at the Library of Michigan. All speakers were blind and provided an inspiring program on possibilities for blind and low vision patrons.
Tim ~ Brown Bag Books is next week. Tim also asked that all pages receive a tech refresher to help with basic computer questions and concerns.
Kathy ~ First E-Reader User Group this Thursday – it will be an informal, drop-in session in the computer lab. The Nook Easy Touch is here and it is fantastic, according to Kathy and the NY Times.
Kathy explained Overdrive Advantage and how it would allow our patrons to access popular ebooks more quickly – reducing their time on a hold list. She has purchased “The Fifth Witness” and encouraged all to go to Overdrive and look for the little gold button, indicating that we have an additional copy of this book for downloading.
