Reference Meeting Minutes 4-26-11

Holly -- Katy requests that we put staff mailboxes in alphabetical order by first name. There were no objections so they will soon be reorganized.

Evan -- Attended Fantastic Fiction yesterday. The topic was Adult Graphic Novels.

Alice -- The first three Landscaping programs have been very successful. This Thursday’s will focus on Sustainable Plants and next week’s will be on Sustainable Landscape Practices.

Frank -- Will show us a new plug-in from Symantec at the next meeting. This plug-in identifies “poison” searches and warns you of dangerous links when you conduct a web search. If patrons report a virus on their computers, just reboot the computers and it will be cleared up. Deep Freeze does not allow viruses to infect our computers. The virus will just be on their current session. Rebooting removes it. Frank has installed Captcha on all of our web forms. This keeps out spammers.

Susan S. -- The Newsletter proof is circulating among staff. The Michigan Notable Books authors will be speaking here on Thursday.

Katie P. -- Mel delivery is running very slowly. Tell people to expect that it will take 2-3 weeks for their requested item to arrive.

Marjorie -- Asked why we can’t view the desk schedule from home. Frank is migrating it to a new server.

Dana -- Youth is starting Kindergarten Roundup. Signups are going on for May storytimes.

Tim -- Thanked everyone for helping out during tax season. Brown Bag Books meets tomorrow. They are discussing “Annie’s Ghosts.”

Barb -- Papercrafters and Needlecrafters groups met last night. May will be the last Papercrafters meeting until October 1st’s Papercraftapalooza. The last DIA program will be May 2. The topic is Egypt and Egyptian Artifacts.

Kathy -- Will host an eReader Users Group at 7pm on June 16. Conducted a Joomla demo that showed us a rough draft of what our new web page will look like and how we will be able to manipulate it.

In attendance: Baker, Bussard, Dinan, Elkin, Hibner, Lichtman, McCardell, Page, Patterson, Petlewski, Sadler, Sherman, Smale, Stoney, Towne.
