Holly Per her email, please try to defeat the new web filter that is installed on the laptop on Joe’s old desk. So far, it’s working well. We will be hiring one new Intern and one new Reference Assistant. Interviews begin today. Frank upgraded Zoom Text on the ADA computer. Kristine is working on new documentation for us to make it easier to use.
Lauren Beginning in January, we will add a third READ session. They will be held on the first three Mondays of each month.
Marjorie She gave the TLN Adult Services meeting report. We already have six applications for next year’s Author Fair. A patron recently suggested that we have a bin for canes at our service desks. We collected 99 books in this year’s Gift of Reading drive. The most popular programs we have had lately have been the Rick Bloom presentations.
Dana We will have two winter break programs: game night on Dec. 26 and winter carnival on Jan. 3. Winter carnival will have three sessions: 11am, 2pm, and 7pm. The format of the Wednesday night story times will change. Beginning in January, they will be more of a “family night” with activities for the whole family. There is contact and other pertinent information at the top of each program sign-up sheet. If you would find it useful to have other information there, as well, please let the Youth staff know.
Alice We had a program on Affordable Wines on Saturday. Both attendance and presentation were disappointing.
Katie P. Any orders you wish to have attributed to the 2012 budget should be place by the end of next week. Technically, patrons are only allowed to renew Mel books once. If you have a patron who is desperate for an extension, give Katie their information and she will contact the lending library and see if that is possible. An even better alternative is to encourage the patron to simply request another copy of the book while they still have the current one. Then they can return the first one on time and check out the second one.
Kathy P. The new Overdrive platform is expected to roll out in the next couple of weeks. Due to low registration for tomorrow’s program on buying an eReader, the program will be held in the Computer Lab. We just got an iPad Mini. It will live in the drawer at RA with the other eReaders. If you wish to use Overdrive on it, the staff library card number is in “Notes”. Our usage statistics do not justify renewing the Weiss Ratings, so we will discontinue offering it after the beginning of the year. We will have classes on how to download books to the Kindle and the Nook in January.
Cathy L. Two programs are coming up: game night and a showing of The Hunger Games. TAB wants to have a poker party. She is considering it.
Pat T. The Personal Property Tax legislation appears ready to pass in the Legislature. If this happens, the Library will lose up to $300,000 in revenue over the next three years, with most of the loss taking place in the first year.
