Holly As of this week, Newsweek magazine is only available in digital form. We don’t know yet if we have online access. She asked if we think we still need to keep some periodicals and papers at the RA desk. The feeling was mostly that we don’t. Holly, Pat and Katie went to a Sirsi/Dynix session this morning. Good things are coming! The new ILS should be in place sometime mid-year. The Mel interface is expected to read our patron database in real time and allow one-stop renewing of materials.
Susan S. We started taking AARP tax appointments last week. The answering machine is checked once per day so depending on when they leave their message, patrons may not hear back from us until the next day. We have six new adult volunteers. Please welcome them. Susan will begin scheduling volunteer orientations twice a year. The next one will be in May or June. The next newsletter deadline is Jan. 24.
Frank He asked if we had had any issues with end-of-session rebooting or about printing using funds on an account and no one was aware of any problems. Kristine will do staff technology training next week. After that, they will upgrade the public computers to Windows 7 and do an Envisionware client upgrade.
Pat We hit the 1,000,000 circ. mark on Dec. 26. The grand total for the year was 1,010,000 circs.
Marjorie The Jan. 23 program has been cancelled. There will be new language in the presenter contracts that specifies an end date for the signed contract to be returned to us. There is a dyslexic patron who is in need of someone to briefly transcribe something for him. Holly volunteered to do it. So far, 10 authors have signed up for the Author Fair. Sunday’s Rhapsody program is “A Gershwin Rendezvous”.
Dana The Winter Carnival was a big success with 250 kids participating. Sign up sheets are out for storytimes and family fun nights. We are also registering for a program sponsored by Morningside School entitled “Brain Friends”.
Tim The IRS says that 1040s and their instruction booklets will be delayed, both online and in print. We do not know if the ones currently available online are good or if they simply have not been removed yet.
Kathy P. Tomorrow’s eReader program as 63 registrants so far. Unfortunately, Overdrive is changing their web interface as of this coming weekend. There will be two more eReader programs in February, as well as the eReader users group.
Suzy The Parade of Preschools will be on Feb. 26.
Barb The American Sewing Guild will bring in sewing machines and fabric on Monday for a pillowcase-making project that will benefit a children’s cancer organization. The next DIA program will be entitled Saints and Sinners.
Carol We will have Martin Luther King, Jr. program on Jan. 21.
