Flex Time

When talking to the public about Flex Time on SAM, we need to remember that there are a lot of criteria that go into whether Flex Time will work. There is documentation at the reference desk that explains under what circumstances someone's time will be extended automatically. It is better to tell a patron that their time will flex "if" there is another computer available at the moment the computer tries to flex it. A computer may look like it is available because no one is sitting at it, while actually it was left logged in or locked by the patron while they use the restroom. We can't promise or guarantee that someone's time will be extended. There are certainly circumstances where their time will most likely flex, but please be careful about telling patrons that their time WILL be extended. It might not. We should encourage people to save their work just in case their time is not flexed.
